NHL Point Spread bet confusion. Please Explain for me.?

Point Spread betting is about a team beating the spread and not entirely about winning. Clbs at Det - Det win (-1.5) That means if you bet on Det they have to win by at least 2 goals to cover the spread and win the bet. If Det wins 3-2, even though they won the game, they lose the bet cause they didnt cover the spread of (-1.5) which really is 2. If you bet on CBS and they lose 3-2, you win the bet cause they didnt lose by 2 goals. They use the -.5 and -1.5 cause all the games end in even numbers and they have to use a number that can be beaten or not beaten, not equaled. (1 or 0 covers -.5 but equals 1 or 0) Lots of times it is better to bet on the underdog cause they can still lose the game and you still win the bet.
